Press Release: Millage Proposal 2024

Shelby-Benona Fire Department Residents:

It is not only our mission at the Shelby-Benona Fire Department to provide the quickest, most efficient, and appropriate response to each emergency, but to go above and beyond through strong fire prevention, education, and community programs.

To do so, the department’s budget must also reflect those goals. This includes line items for personnel wages, training opportunities, apparatus/equipment/gear maintenance, educational handouts, station utilities and more, all while seeing continued growth in call volumes and increased cost across the board.

In 2014, the department took to the community to ask for the support of our service area on said budget through the collection of a millage. That millage was set and collected for 10 years, meaning with the conclusion of t
he 2024 calendar the conclusion of that agree upon millage and budget period close as well.

We as a department look for you to do the same this coming fall election season. We are once again requesting your support with a renewal and increase to our operating millage and the approval of a new equipment millage that would span the next 10 budget years. Increasing the current millage amount from .985 mills to 1.0 mill for operating and 0.0 mills to 0.5 mills for equipment.

Your support of this renewal and increase is critical to future of our department and assurance of continued service to all those in the fire district. We of course encourage you all to vote YES, this coming fall but want to make sure you are the most informed you can be.
